If you are Baptist and homosexual, you must work hard to hide the fact. This is quite independent of the issue of living a gay lifestyle BTW.

No, you must work hard to obey the religious tenets and beliefs found in that faith, one of which is that homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of god.

Now if you want to treat homosexuality as a disease, or a biological "mis-programming" (since homosexual sex cannot result in pro-creation), then you've got a point that Baptists should, but have no obligation to, be tolerant and assist the person suffering from the affliction. You can't make people lose their prejudices and suddenly accept someone who is "different".

But if you believe it's personal choice, then you made a choice to be homosexual versus heterosexual. You choose NOT to get married and follow god's command to be "fruitful and multiple" (bearing fruit, as opposed to being one.. ;0) And thus, you should also make the choice to find a religious denomination that will accept homosexuals as members.

You're attempting to turn parochial rights of a group or organization into INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. No one has the human right to be born into royalty. And no one has the right to be "born" into a religious belief. Being Baptist is not a hereditary right passed on by one's parents, but an individual choice.

However, being able to worship and believe as you choose without infringing on other people's rights IS a human right. And one's political beliefs should be an individual human right. And they should have the right to logically and peacefully convince as many other people as possible that their views are the correct ones.

So for that homosexual Baptist, the suggestion is obvious. Form your own Baptist church for gays.

What is very discouraging is that most of those in America, including you, seeking to implement this change, are oblivious to the fundamental problem. Thats why I see failure ahead more than anything else.

No.. I'm not oblivious to the problem. But I don't believe it's "fundamental". It's the law of the jungle, where the strong dominate the weak. Civilized behavior DEMANDS that people respect the rights of one another, lest their own rights be denied to them should political power shift against them.

The Iraqis are ONE people as an Iraqi soveriegn state. The "fundamental problem" is that Iraqi identity as a multi-cultural people must be emphasized by the Iraqi government, or democracy is doomed to fail. Only when people have a common interest in preserving a state that will tolerate and protect their individual rights can democracy function and tolerance and compromise occur. People must surrender some of their parochial ambitions versus rivals in the interest of preserving their individual human rights.

No Neo.. I don't have any illusions. But the Iraqi people and its government will have to make the decision as to what path they will take towards the ultimate democratic goal.

Because I believe that's what will eventually happen. Either everyone will ultimately live in an democratic society with an accountable government, or democracy will be snuffed out on our planet.

That's the "fundamental problem".. Tyranny and Democracy cannot tolerate the presence of one another. They will always be rivals and antagonists. And either the tyrants will succeed in destroying the individualist spirit, or they will find themselves deposed by those who demand a say in how they are governed.
