Who would you expect the Palestinians to vote for? Hamas was the backbone to the resistance to Israeli occupation. It was clear that the political leaders after the peace settlement with Israel would be from Hamas.

Yes, you have to give Hamas a chance, if you're willing to give Palestine a chance. As the election proved...Palestine and Hamas are one in the same.
