Do you think that this is a setup to make those Republican legislators who are up for relelcetion appear as "tough on crime" to their constituents? Don't forget Karl Rove's political brilliance.

The company is owned by the United Arab Emirates, . . .

You would have loved Lou Dobbs tonight. We rarely watched but just happened to click there before diving off the TV to Tivo. Couldn't get to Tivo.

Dobbs, as you may know, when he gets on a mission, genuinely gets on a mission. And the mission tonight was to use every weapon possible to stop the Dubai port deal. He even got down into the ties between the Carlyle group, the Bush family, Dubai, the Saudis, and so on.

re: "money for the 9/11 hijackers was routed primarily through the UAE banking system, and the UAE has been a key transfer point for illegal shipments of nuclear components to Iran and North Korea."

My guess is that the UAE or specifically Dubai have the most developed banking system in the Middle East. For instance, it wouldn't surprise me if every major American and European bank has a significant presence in Dubai. Also remember, what you are referring to is pre 9-11.

If I had to guess, Dubai also has the largest Port in the Middle East (can you send me a link describing the transfer of nuclear components going from North Korea to Iran via the UAE? Thanks).

If not Dubaia, can you tell me who the "good" Arabs are? Bahrain? Qatar?
