I recall you ranting about how these two “socialist” schemes would prevent you from dumping the costs of your health care onto the rest of society at large.

Maybe you'd like to find these posts of mine so everyone can remember things the way you do.

I believe that people should be allowed to choose between buying insurance and paying directly for their healthcare or not buying healthcare if they so choose. I don't think in a free society we should force people to buy insurance or any other product. We don't force people to buy food, why is health insurance different?

The reason you see it as different is because the government forces providers to provide healthcare regardless of ability to pay. Can you think of any other basic necessity where the government forces a supplier to provide it regardless of whether or not the person using that service will pay for it? The providers have little recourse other than to shift the cost to people like me who have always paid for my own healthcare and health insurance. This stupidity actually prompts more individuals to choose not to buy their own health insurance.
