Civil war was inevitable at some point anyway. We can beat our breasts and blame ourselves or step aside and dis-involve ourselves. Iraqi shiaa are blaming our ambassador for triggering this with his aggressive comments about sectarianism directed at shiaa pm.
Facts are:
1. Saddam brutalized shiaa and kurds.
2. Saddam was overthrown by us
3. Sunnis failed to participate in the rebuilding effort and in the political process because they refused to accept their minority status
4. US has been bending over backwards to get sunnis involved but no one on sunni side could control baathists and terrorist.
5. Civil war may have begun unless all sides come to their senses.
6. First step must be the end of the baath/jihadi insurgency. Sunnis must do this by withdrawing support and helping us. If not civil war becomes almost inevitable.
7. US should stay away from civil war that shiaa will win.
8. Likely outcome is three states with bagdad in shiaa state and kirkuk part of kurdistan.
9. Sunnis get their west bank solution and can become the worlds next PA.
10. This sucks but it is what it is.
