The UAE economically dependent on the Saudis? I don't think so. Is the UAE less dependent on oil income than the Saudis and other Persian Gulf states? Maybe, but the UAE still have roughly 8% of the world's total oil reserves (98 Billion barrels - very close to the reserves of Iraq or Iran) and the world's fifth largest gas reserves. Though it is true that the Emirate of Dubai itself only has roughly 4 billion barrels of oil.

It is also important to realize that the British have been a major player in the UAE for about 150 years (with over 70 years as a British Protectorate - till 1970). Which helps explain why the British aren't so worried about PO being taken over by DP. DP will not only control ports in Britain, but ferry service to the mainland of Europe. One should also note, that 2 years ago, Dubai Ports purchased CSX International Terminal (CSX's Global container port business) from America's CSX Corporation. Realize also, the PO Division of DP World will remain headquartered in the UK.
