Oceanside used to have bad gang-banger problems in some neighborhoods - like the one I bought a foreclosure in.

Then, they enacted one of those city anti-gang ordinances, where the gang bangers can't wear their colors, have pagers or cellphones, hang out together, whistle, make gang signs, etc, or they get hauled to jail. Since then, the gang problems have pretty much vanished.

As of three years ago when I left, San Marcos and Escondido have more gang problems than Oceanside. Carlsbad seems totally gang-free from my experience. NONE of the cities in SD county have any gang problems like S. Central LA and some other CA cities. Gangs can't afford to live there!

"Oceanside a hang-out for gang bangers? I was looking at Oceanside,Carlsbad,San Marcos, and Escondido to ESCAPE gang-bangers"

Carlsbad then. And they are not completely immune. (but I would be unconcerned walking around at night). The few jewels that are immuned are going to be pretty expensive. Though I Dont really know I'd say 750m is going to get you 4bd 3ba townhouse or small tract in these areas. But you should have lots to choose from.
