I think that pretty much says it all. Let me tell you a secret. About a year ago, I began to question my loyalty to the Republican party, because this Republican party doesn't really stand for the same Republican values I grew up with. I began to voice my disgust with my father and brother, who jokingly started calling me the family liberal. That will give a few of you a laugh, because you all know damn well I'm not very liberal.

Anyway, both of them have called me in the last few days telling me they think Bush must be on drugs or that maybe he is some kind of idiot afterall. I think the ports deal was the last straw for them. Now keep in mind, that my whole family is about as Republican as you can get. My father even went so far as to predict that Republicans will lose the majority in both houses and that the next President will be Democratic, because of Bush and his idiocy. Now that is a prediction that I'm starting to believe myself.

So let me just tell you all this. If you have a family like mine thinking that Republicans no longer stand for our values, then I have to believe that the Republicans won't be in power for very much longer. I guess this is the power of the American system. When the government doesn't represent the people who elected it, then that government loses power pretty quickly in our country. There you have it.

So why did this latest case of sloppiness and indifference finally catch the public's attention? Because this time the administration has become a victim of its own campaign of fearmongering and insinuation.

That's exactly right. The GOP congresspeople are in shock. For 5 years, they believed on some level that the Arabs are ready to land on the VA coast and march their way to the Capitol. They are aghast at Bush's lack of concern. It would all be laughable if this weren't part of an ongoing nightmare.
