Lack of sex ed and birth control creates more abortions. The religious right knows this, but they fight to ban sex ed and birth control anyway. Why? Because their crusade isn't really about abortion at all, it's about practically outlawing sex out of wed-lock, going back to the old Puritan days. These are the most prudish people outside the Taliban in the entire world. They're really repressed nut cases and they take their guilty stress out on the rest of us.

The perfect psychological model is Jimmy Swaggart. Preaching fire and brimstone against "harlots and lust" during the day and disguising himself to go out to sleazy red-light motels with prostitutes at night. So what they do during the day is project their own tormented guilt on the rest of us, even if the rest of us feel we've done nothing wrong.

You can also bet a lot of the religious right zealots are really repressed self-hating homos. He who smelt it dealt it, right?
