The UAE is only an ally of ours in terms of having some common enemies, and doing some big business deals. For our part, we supply them with arms and buy their oil. For their part, they give us part of our money back for those arms and other assets, now including our ports. But the UAE and all Arab governments tolerate a certain amount of anti-American sentiment in their governments and religious establishments. for instance, the day that Bush was holding hands with the Arab pricne in the flower garden, the top Saudi cleric was calling for Saudi men to go to Iraq and kill Americans.

These Arab countries are not real allies. They only do what they have to do, and no more.
