You hit the nail on the head. Carville really made it worse in 1992 but fingers can be pointed all over the place.
When a major issue comes up, the "tit for tat" tangential mudslingging starts and the real issue gets overshadowed...often, nothing being done. Throw in the race and Semetic cards and you have the state of American politics.

For the good of the country? Fogettaboutit.

True. On the other hand, I smell a bit of discontent with Bush... even from the "talk show conservatives".
