Maybe someone on this thread would be in a position to help you, if you have not visited it already.

It's precisely your friend's experience that troubles me.

Configuring wireless networks is a challenge for Mac or PC. That friendly green one-touch button on the Linksys is a brilliant marketing move. <g>

If you haven't used a Mac since the Power PC versions, you are in for a treat. OS X is essentially UNIX married to that beautiful Mac GUI. Mine has not crashed in three years, although I will restart it occasionally so that it can retrieve any leaked RAM.

Having said all this, I have not used the Intel Macs, so you may want to take my advice with the proverbial grain of sodium chloride.

Just curious, why are you considering a Mac?

know about it because I need, at least for a while, to run some stock trading programs that are only Windows.

One of my friend's problems was that she couldn't get into her broker's web site. There are workarounds for all these problems, including running Windows on the Mac so she can do her landscaping and getting Firefox so she can access her broker.

I am a very hassle-averse person. I'd have to have a very, very good reason for switching to something that invited hassles. IMO, you might as well wear a sign that says "hit me." But that's just me.
