John,

We pay double for our health care yet our stats are worse than most single payer systems.

Neither the costs nor the stats can be relied on.

Is the cost of a drug or a procedure the listed price or the price that the insurance company pays, often 2 to 5 times lower? Since consumers don't face actual costs directly, demand will always be excessive and few useful conclusions can be reached about costs.

There is little likelihood that aggregate statistics in different countries are comparable enough to make a meaningful comparison. I personally have had the experience of scheduling a non-priority MRI only a week ahead without even trying. I would guess that no single payer system in the world could match that except for the politically connected.

Regards, Don
