RE:"OT Medicare was charged $5000 for my mother's MRI of two weeks ago."

Well, when you get in one of those it does sound like a 5000 dollar hammer.

it is not the charge to medicare but what medicare accepts.. do you get a copy of the payment by medicare.

for example i am not medicare age yet,,, when aetna is charged by hospitals, doctors, exam rooms , labs the prices are listed prices and when aetna pays them the price fields note submitted price,,, negotiated price or price allowed. aetna pays a % of the negotiated price or all of it depending on my situation. i am not liable to the difference between submitted price and negotiated price... negotiated price is the price these departments, drs have agreed to invoice. i am responsible for any amounts not paid to complete negotiated price.

i expect if medicare pays for example $2000 then that is the price not the $5000. price.

i located my last invoice for mri. billed $1475, negotiated price $435. i paid $87. must have already met my deductables and insurance paid $348. i was amazed how far the prices dropped and going back i think my prior post estimated higher prices... this is a way off from $5000. for mri billed to medicare. insurance company only accepts a negotiated price of $435.?
