Peter they have equality... don't they ? If folks in authority, charged with the stewardship of public order and safety fall down wrt to any group... I say fire their asses and they lose their pensions...

Actually no. There is no urgency when the police find out that it is a "Gay Bashing" and the priority given to gay murders is just not there. And frequently we hear the "he touched me" defence. There is also the problem with the religious community and their harping about sin. Many of the youth suicides are because they are called gay or fear they might be. To lose a child and find out he was simply confused about his/her sexuality, and had no where to turn makes this a serious issue. And of course the attitudes of guidance counsellors and the other supposed counsellor the Priests only make the problem worse. Plus there is often a general problem of general family attitudes, although I think often children commit suicide not understanding that their families would support them and try to understand.
