We can "kick ass" better than anyone in the world right now. Afghanistan and Iraq prove it. Because of us, people have voted for their leaders in Afganistan, Iraq and Lebanon. It's a long way from perfect, but it's an improvement.

Being a great power means you have to understand the limits of that power. For the US that's primarily means accepting that many of the folks you intend on helping have a great deal of animosity, & distrust for you and jealously of you. What Bill & Co. still fail to accept is that there were few flowers. Even today the so-called "good" news is that shiaa and sunni are talking again about govt composition and yesterday there were joint sunni/shiaa prayer services. But along with that is a call for a stated US timetable for complete withdrawl from iraq. This comes most from the shiaa but i think it makes much sense since the US is the prime target of the insurrection. We are not doing enough good in iraq for us to stay beyond a stated time. What will happen in iraq, will happen with us there or without. It's time to think selfishly and not put our folks at risk any longer in a place where the vast majority of both shiaa and sunni want us out. I know about the Kurds but the are strong enough to survive and we should help them remain strong. mike

You're dang right quitting is different from losing. If we didn't have so many whiners at home we would win them all, and some of them are tigers, not kittens. (Although I hardly think a beating wherein our guys get killed fits your analogy.)

So you think the USA should become isolationist?

What if Osama flies into a NZ building?

I hear the Aussies are getting very intolerant of Muslim behavior, whereas we in the USA can't even bear to profile them at the airport.

It's kind of like Damned if you do, Damned if you don't, kinda thing.
