I do want to make sure hospitals provide a standard of care consistent with best practices- you entirely miss the duty that hospitals owe to patients first

And you entirely miss the distinction between what a hospital should do and what is illegal for the hospital to do. If hospitals are violating medical standards, then the AMA and any other professional governing bodies are the folks who should fix the problem. They're the medical standards guys.

There are lots and lots of things that people shouldn't do. We don't necessarily criminalize them.

Let's all take a breath and cool down here, OK? Unfortunately, if I banned everyone who demonized the left or the right in violation of the thread TOU, we would hardly have anyone left. So it's going to crop up from time to time.

I'd like to ask everyone again not to stoop to that level, and not to react (to the extent possible) when others do.

The only way the thread works is if we all strive to take the high road. I agree with your point on abortion choice and had the same thought when I read the post you are responding to. Both sides have had a chance to highlight what they believe are hypocritical stances. Better to move on.

Thanks.

Of course you want to dictate. It's your belief that hospitals have a "duty" to tell new mothers that
they must breast feed.

Your underlying assumption is also that new mothers are
too stupid to make their own decisions such that
they might be influenced by what you call the
hospital's tacit approval of formula.

I find that way of thinking particularly illustrative
of the left's paternalistic and rather elitist attitude
about matters of choice.

Your reference to abortion is the natural bounce back
position for those seeking to control other choices
across the board.

I've never said I don't favor choice on the abortion
issues. OTOH, you've taken a very specific position
against choice in the hospital setting. Although you
revamp it as a hospital duty issue, and decry use
of hospitals as marketing arms, the bottom line is
the same. You think hospitals should only encourage
breast feeding and should not mention formula, regardless
of whether a mother has to promptly return to work, etc.
That's your opinion. Even if medical science indicates
that breast feeding is best for babies, there is no law
against formula. You just don't like the formula choice.
