children develop much better in two parent homes- so initiatives that makes sense which encourage two parent homes are fine by me These would need to be governmental, I think. I'm torn here, because although I strongly agree with the gain, it does hit my threshold of unwanted state interference in lifestyle. I would have no objections to tax breaks for two-parent families, say, or similar inducements to stay together. BUt these of course would simply benefit the richest most, unless maybe capped on at a certain level of income (which makes the system more complex, etc etc). <edit> and this brings also there are all the complications of are the parents married, what if they split, do new couples count, what about gay couples, etc... Reductions in support for the single parent may reduce numbers - but might also be counterproductive (in health terms) by driving single mothers into even worse poverty. I suppose it could be cut in from a date, say 9 months in the future so as not to encourage people to race it <g> As for the poster idea, I am assuming that was originally proposed to be an annoying straw man. But it may have been the product of stupidity, or even of someone 'thinking' that this is what hospitals should do - I don't greatly care.
