Hello RJA,
www.iogen.ca or maybe www.iogen.com
The most recent issue of Chemical and Engineering News has this to say:

Iogen, a small Canadian enzyme company, operates the world's only biomass ethanol plant, a demonstration facility that it opened two years ago in Ottawa with financial backing from Shell and Petro-Canada.
(That's a demonstration scale facility, not a large scale practical one.)

The article also says:
For now, large-scale biomass ethanol production is just a dream, one that has led to its share of disappointments over the years.
A 1998 Chemical and Engineering News article chronicled several (planned) biomass ethanol projects; none was built.

The article quotes from people who want governments to spend big money on research to make biomass ethanol a reality.
One of the scientific problems to be solved is how to "ferment the five-carbon sugars that make up a good portion of cellulosic biomass." Sugar cane has mostly sucrose, a six carbon sugar, the substance that fat people and kids love. It is easily fermented to ethanol.
Seeker of Truth.
P.S. The above does not prompt me to sell my COS.UN.
