"Lam Research and Mattson Technology Inc. were both chopped to sell from hold. The analyst pared Lam Research's price target to $38 from $42 and Mattson Tech's to $9 from $12."

It is a ton of noise about a volatile stock they lowered their target 15% for.... yeah... probably so they can get some shares at their old target....

I sent a note about this to my subscribers this AM. Here is a recap

2/27/06: Kirk: I noticed Citigroup downgraded LRCX to Sell. Sell? When a major house like Citi says sell, it typically isn't for a capturing a technical move, no? Sell is for looser companies. Any guidance?
Is there a way for you to enlighten us subscribers to Citigroup's rational? It would be much appreciated.
Sincerely, xxx

what do they know?

Send me a copy of their report and I'll take a look. Try and find out what Smith Barney (Citigroup) was saying about LRCX back in 1998 when it was $3.33.

I took profits in LRCX at $46 and had another set for $49 that didn't hit. LRCX is now correcting back towards the open gap at $40 and the 50 day moving average at $41.60. My Auto Buy for the newsletter was set at $xx to try and capture an attempted gap fill and a correction below the 50 day moving average. Having both so close was why I wanted to take profits again at $49 only a few dollars above my $46 profit taking level. These sorts of gaps don't often stay unfilled unless we have a very long trend change.

Today Citigroup downgraded LRCX from Hold to Sell. Corrections in the very best of the technology stocks don't happen without help. If you don't own any, I'd sure buy a few shares here at $42. If it goes 20% lower, then add more, and so on...

The changes that are happening in the World are not going to happen without chips made with Lam equipment. Unless you are a doom and gloom type and fear a massive recession, Lam is a stock you want to own.
