High interest rates, high inflation, slow growth and a nation too deep in debt to develop a real capacity for saving in a country with unsupportable and yet irreversible structural deficits and social programs that are simply not viable on the current tax base -- not a pretty picture, but as to the extremity of each of these aspects it is hard to tell if this is a long-term chronic slide or a relatively shorter, sharper shock. On our current glide path we will be losing altitude --but will it be nose down or soft landing? I would say in between with a very rough landing but lots of survivors.
