James > Now I know you did not expect me to lay a sermon on you. But it is time to do this because I cannot change the course of history, whatever it may turn out to be.

I can understand that and I can also appreciate your predicament and your frustration. All the same, I do believe one should try to stand up for what one believes in on this earth, even if nothing much comes of it. At least say one's piece. And here is my response to your sermon:

A poem by Pastor Martin Niemoller, Berlin, 1939.
Niemoller was a pastor in the German Confessing Church
who spent eight and one-half years in a Nazi concentration camp.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out--
because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out--
because I was not a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out--
because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me--
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
