Agree.
A thin balance act indeed - but obviously quite effective if mastered perfectly.

"Creating enemies, real or imagined can in many cases result in solidarity."

"“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism”

Hermann Goering

Sound familiar?

re: Creating enemies, real or imagined can in many cases result in solidarity. Some say that is perpetuated in some groups

how the hell did you arrive to your conclusions from Einstein's quote?

"Anti-Semitism is nothing but the antagonistic attitude produced in the non-Jew by the Jewish group. The Jewish group has thrived on oppression and on the antagonism it has forever met in the world...the root cause is their use of enemies they create in order to keep solidarity."

I studied under Bergman at NYU and few times he spoke of Einstein. Einstein, I believe, once wrote that he was not aware that he was jewish until germans reminded him of that. Maybe you'd understand his quote a bit better now but I doubt you can
