Homer's Trojan Horse, used to gain entry into Troy by Greek soldiers, is believed by some to actually signify an earthquake that brought down Troy. Poseidon was god of the sea and of earthquakes. His symbol was a horse. The meaning of the horse may have been that an earthquake destroyed Troy's walls and the Greeks were able to gain entry through the shattered walls. In some areas of the city, what appear to have been fine houses have been reduced to rubble. Some archeaolgists belive that may be the result of the sacking of the city, though.
