don't leave out trent lott.. his state built the last one i believe and he fought to get the money through congress. i thought back then navy said they didn't need another carrier.

Going down to 10 would probably mean that all the Pre Nimitz carriers would be taken out of service. We have only 9 Nimitz class carriers, but CVN77 is supposed to be commissioned in 2008. That makes sense those pre Nimitz class ships where launched in the 60s. Ships can last a long time but they are starting to get old, and while deployments can be long we don't have a desperate need for more carriers right now. Even if we don't go down to 10 carriers the first couple of CVN X/ CVN 21 carriers should replace the last of the pre-Nimitz carriers but it will be awhile before they go in to active service. worldsfinestnavy.com en.wikipedia.org hazegray.org en.wikipedia.org en.wikipedia.org navsource.org
