Contraband comes in in some of the 16,000 containers entering the US EVERY DAY. We don't want to make it easier for the terrorists by turning over port management to their friends.

Now that the issue has been elevated, perhaps the Chinese running the Port of LA will be examined too, with national security in mind. It seems somehow incongrous to have Rummy agitating about a "Chinese military buildup" while they're running the Port of LA!

In their case, they're just mostly unloading their own exports, and would have little interest in disturbing the favorable trade balance they currently enjoy. So, they probably represent little threat.
