actually i have no problem whatsoever with schools removing junk food vending machines

the schools are under no compunction to provide junk food, for that matter, i think most schools should get out of the food service business entirely....state sponsored school lunches are notoriously high in trans fat and sugar and low on fresh vegetables and whole grains, with students selecting things like pizza and 'tater tots' (ugh) but hey it's cheap

i remember when i was in HS that we didn't have vending machines in the cafeteria, in fact the only vending machines were in the teacher's lounge, <gee, i wonder what they knew) the food pretty much sucked back then too....even then most of the students would be extremely picky about the food they were being provided, many a time we simply 'skipped' lunch rather than eat a soggy burger or some weird concoction like 'wednesday beef and noodles'....just horrible stuff...

the fact is that it is the parents who are charged with the primary responsibility of feeding their children, and parents who provide healthy choices and well prepared meals at home usually end up with kids who have an idea of how to feed themselves when presented with even the poor, limited choices in the school lunch program

i disagree that the ban is 'working', if anything the ban is teaching these kids to hoard unhealthy food, most likely they are buying more 'just in case' and being undisciplined, are probably eating it just because it there (meaning in their locker or gym bag).....if anything this type of prohibition is setting the problem eaters up for binge type behaviour
