Kerry always went on the attack in Vietnam. Fearlessly. Which is why he won his medals. He decided the best defesne was offense and led other Swiftboats in a new tactic to charge INTO enemy fire from the banks rather than retreat from it. This resulted in many enemy routed and killed. Kerry killed a number personally. He did not lose a single boatman, but kicked serious butt against the enemy.

This was while Bush and Cheney were back home dodging the draft and being serious alcoholics.

When a small group of us spoke to Kerry in 2003 about AL Qaida, Kerry told us that what he would do would be to go into any country where Al Qaida is hiding, do whatever was necessary to collect intel, then surgically wipe out the actual terrorists. Kerry was very disappointed when Bush let Osama Bin lauden go at Tora Bora. In fact he was outraged.
