i really don't understand it either...

my conclusion at the time was it was a gender based selection and he chose her thinking she would fly under the radar with less opposition than to some of the other more well qualified candidates like priscilla owens or janice brown

all i can conclude is that they decided she was a 'safe' female candidate who wouldn't get borked
