Big news today: Bush lied about Katrina. He claimed at the time he couldn't have imagined the levees breaking. Now it's proven he was warned days in advance of exactly that crisis in the making. Bush did nothing. he actually stayed on vacation and went to make a speech comparing himself to FDR fighting WWII.

Bush not only deserves impeachment, he deserves to be hung up by the nuts and left to twist in the wind.

"This is you President intentionally lying to you".

There have been many opportunities to do that, the media has passed on every one. Or worse, they usually cover for him. When I was in the Netherlands this summer, I was asked why Americans couldn't compare the things Bush was saying and realized that he lies through his teeth much of the time. A large part of the reason is that the media refuses to do the job, for whatever reason. And without that kind of exposure, it slips most people's attention.

I have probably been as critical of the media as anyone on this thread, but I've been wondering lately who really is at fault here. Did the media start dumbing down in the last 6 years, or have they been dumbing down for some time? I am beginning to think the latter. And whose fault is that? Isn't it the fault of Americans for not expecting better? Isn't the media giving us what we want?

When I am in Europe, and I bet this is the same for you as well, people were always amazed that I knew as much as I did when it came to international politics. The same with my Israeli friends in LA. My EU friends continue to say that now. Americans have a reputation for being stupid about foreign affairs and how this country behaves in the world. The media knows that and acts accordingly.

Look at Fox News.......it 'does' the world in 80 seconds. In other words, anything in the world not involving the US is covered in 80 seconds. Doesn't that say it all? I think the problem with today's media is that its the kind of media we have demanded in the past. No?
