I agree the US military does not target civilians. Or hasn't since Vietnam. But when a president ignores true intel, lies to the nation and sends our military to war based on false intel and for false reasons, then the military will inevitably make major mistakes.

The problems in Iraq start at the top, with Bush. And Cheney was even more to blame as it's coming out that he was the one who talked Bush into a hardline approach to rushing in unprepared. Maybe Cheney wanted the big Halliburton contracts. He was, afterall, Halliburton's CEO and retained stock options. Halliburton has profited more than anyone from the Iraq War and the longer we stay mired there, the more profits they make. Don't underestimate that as a priority to Cheney, who obviously doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself.

re: We kill thousands of children in bombing raids, but rationalize that by saying that we're "bringing them freedom."

no, we don't. Wars are not particularly nice but for one reason or another we fight them....

But we do not target children - compare US troops with terrorists is simply insulting

Huh? What koolaid are you drinking? The same one that tells you Israelis don't shoot children? Many children have been killed or maimed by American bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan.
