The 60's started out great with JFK, then he was murdered by the rightwing. LBJ was a disgrace and so was Nixon. They escalated that war for no good reason and did the USA huge damage. But someone won that war. Guess who? Same company that's winning in Iraq. Halliburton, then called Brown + Root. Buddies with Cheney and LBJ both.

We still haven't paid off the debt from Vietnam and may not pay off Iraq for many decades. COuld cost us as much as 2 trillion dollars.

In 1968, we could have gotten back on track again but Robert Kennedy was also murdered. Huge tragedy. Again the J. Edgar Hoover post-McCarthyites are the main culprits.

BTW: Bush is a much bigger spender than LBJ, and it's all deficit spending. At least LBJ paid as he went. Also, when LBJ got busted lying to start a war he stepped down. Showed some class. Bush didn't but should. Any other western country would have forced Bush-Cheney to resign by now.
