My wife and I saw Mt. Rushmore when we drove to Idaho from Ohio in 1969 with our tiny baby girl. It had a small visitor center and we enjoyed it.

In 2004 we again made the trip, this time without a baby girl. There is a huge new visitor center and double decker parking garage, and amphitheatre, all built without tax payer dollars. I was amazed.

Weather then deteriorated and by the time we got to Deadwood it was snowing so hard I could only go about 35 mph. It was creepy going through Deadwood in the middle of the night in a snowstorm. The place was deserted.
