I don't know or have an idea. It seems odd to hedge as much as they used too but if gold gets to 800-1000 I bet a lot of people hedge to guarantee income. As long as they do not hedge in a toxic way.

Should Barrick buy gold at current prices to eliminate hedges, when they can mine it for much less ? It is to be noted that NGX chose to repay their loan early leaving their (small) hedge in place.

I'm sure Barrick (and NGX) would prefer to be unhedged, but....
