What I have tried to look at is the "why" in the particular politician's action. What I found, in many cases and in both parties, is that the loudest screamers were those who: (1) Are up for election in '06, (2) Are wannabes for '08 or, (3) received a fair amount of largess from the longshoremen.

In other words, there could be no reasonable grounds for disagreeing with Bush. Just narrow minded self interest.

My personal view is that the purchase by DP should be approved.

I don't see how anyone can conclude that yet. We simply don't know enough about how port security is handled, what the port deal actually has to do with port security, and just how dubious a proposition is involved in this particular company.

But we do know that the Bush administration fouled up the review. Big time, as the once and future vp is oft quoted as saying. And that they, the Bush administration, has angered its Republican congressional critics by ignoring or talking down to them (as in, they just need education).
