The way I understand it Kerry and Edwards had a little falling out after the election because Edwards wanted to contest the Ohio results but Kerry didn't. Kerry was said to be afraid they would call him a sore loser from the report I read.

I would vote for Edwards over Kerry if they were running against each other in a primary.

Kerry has two lawsuits in Ohio ongoing. He knows he was cheated. But he needs hard evidence before he talks about it.

Of course Kerry challenged the smearvets. The first day he said "they have nothing to do with the truth, then sent surrogate Max Cleland after them.

Kerry would not stoop to their level and get knocked off message. He was talking about real issues that mattered.

The fault on smearvets was with the press for giving them equal time, as if anything they said was in any way true. It was all pure lies of course. But the press treated them as if they were a bona fide concern. All they were was a dirty tricks operation.

If Kerry had got up and denied denied the smearvets still would have won. That's why Rove always uses smear campaigns, because it's almost impossible to defend against them.
