Exactly, Kerry showed himself to not be a tough enough to be a leader. He showed that he was not smart enough to battle for the job. AS makes excuses and ignores what Kerry could have done. Kerry should have won the election, but he did not know how to run a campaign. It was his to lose, and he found a way to lose.

Kerry won the battle (Presidential debates) but he lost the war.
