Iran and Israel were allies when the shah was in power and the ayottolahs didnt have to throw that all away. Israel was a natural ally to counteract arabs between them who were common foes. Israel never had nukes to deter iran. Emnity evolved but long after israel had nukes and irans support of terrorists is what made them a target. So sure they need nukes to deter israel. But that doesnt mean their acquiring them is a good idea for anyone including the people of iran who will be annihilated in any exchange. I understand your point and i think you understand mine.
