My remembrance is that in 1999 the Athlon had AT LEAST 10 of the total market and maybe 60% percent of the low end "server" market.

In 2001 the Xeon 900 came out and helped define what was to become the low end server market.

By about 2005 Athlon and Opteron were back to about 10% of the server market mainly because of lack of infrastructure.

Now the dc, 64 bit Opteron is back up to 14% of the small "server" market, commonly defined as servers that sell for < 25K.

Any thoughts, any one?
