Nothing will happen quickly. I am making an assumption though that may turn out to be wrong and that is that all Hamas leaders arent the same. I think they were elected to govern better than the Pal mafia who ran the place before. In that sense israel and hamas are on the the same side. Can this be expanded? Dont know. But reliance on abbas and Fatah has always been a losing game for the israelis. So how about 5 year hudna and some recognition of the jews continued presence in the region--67 borders are a start. And cooperation on matters that help the Pal people. If Hamas is ever to be tamed, it will not be done by Israel but by citizens of Palestine who are living better in an era of relative peace and security. The israelis can always go back to war if necessary.
And re the russians i think its a little of both. Putin has shown genuine affection for Israel in the past and this russian opening to hamas may make them the fair mediator that the US will never be perceived as by Hamas or the Pals.
In this case give peace a chance because there is little to lose. Also Israel by continuing to go after Fatah based terrorists is doing hamas a favor as well.
In any case i just throw these things out there for debate. Odds are long. Mike
