Good grief, Carville and Matlin cannot be compared to the Doles and the Clintons.

Neither Carville nor Matlin are bound by the rules of ethics that bind Senators. No Arab Emirate would pour money into either's treasure chests because it just isn't worth it. Now, a former President whose wife is likely to be the Dem candidate for the Presidency in '08, that is a completely different thing altogether. The money spigot is wide open to them, especially to him since he is essentially I think free to do as he pleases and can contribute "his" cash to her campaign without any limits that I know about.

Neither of the Doles are current Presidential aspirants, so the money spigot is probably not quite as open to them as it is to the Clintons.

I love politics and politicos, no greater entertainment value in the world.

who have a similarly strong political stance that it has divided them to a point of not being friends any longer..

Sorry to see that.

Politics is 90% theater, positioning, compromise, calculation, and manipulation, in an attempt to broadly promote one's values and interests. It is only on rare occassions that principle is involved. It is even rarer nowadays for statesmanship to rear its head even when the most serious issues are involved.

If it cannot be enjoyed for what it is, politics should not be discussed at the dinner table. Or here, for that matter.

They are still married.

There is no doubt that they are "happily" married. Both of them have come on TV together and stated so. Some two years ago, when Carville released his book, Mary was also there at the releasing ceremony with their two children.

This is what makes me a proud American in that this society accepts such couples, who can keep their political differences aside and away from the family dining tables and raise a very good bunch of kids.
