McCain, Kerry, Anne Richards, Max Cleland all responded to the smear campaigns, but you see, the rightwing had their armies of liars all prepared and ready to spread the lies quickly. Many of these worst liars were among the so-called "Christian" right. Major sinners indeed.

In South Carolina, Bush-Rove used the religious right under Ralph Reed to phonecall swing-voters and tell them McCain's adopted child was the "bastard child of a ni**er whore". And you can see the smearvet lies to this day on Kerry "traitor, Jane Fonda, communist, called out troops murderers, shot an innocent, unarmed boy in the back", all total hogwash but repeated millions of times.

The oinly good news is that I don't think their insidious smear machine will work again. They aer boys who cried wolf. Kerry and McCain are both clearly much better presidential material than Bush and now everyone knows it.
