Mike,
I was re reading the article, and had just got off the phone with a friend and neighbor that mentioned that the US Airforce
had just stationed 3 C130 gunships in Iraq.
The following seemed particularly relevant to his comment on
the C130s
"The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing – that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack – but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections.[11]"

Mike
What is so often overlooked re: USA is "peace loving nation" is that we lost our nuclear virginity in 1945.

Sort of like, "Hey, I screwed that prostitute, didn't use a condom, and didn't get AIDS. I guess I'll screw three at once this time. These crack addicts look pretty hot!"

Bush is like that dufus on Deal/No Deal last night that kept turning down $$$ until he walked finally with 5k instead of the $3,000,000 teaser.

Unfortunately, my immediate reaction is how can you be shocked by anything this administration does after it has demonstrated corruption and incompetence over a period of years- has a plan of occupation ever been this bad? Did we show any understanding of the Iraqui culture and divisive forces at work there? Has a US administration ever been responsible for the destruction of a major US city? How can you send people to war and then not provide them with adequate medical benefits? the list is endless.
