I feel badly for Anthony and his family. But I don't think it's about the issues that you raise. The convictions were on counts that are very specific and I'd refer you to them. I always thought that extortion was the key and it is hard to argue against what appears to have been the pattern there, and which may have been only one case out of many for which he was not charged.

The "Batman Defense" was tried and it didn't work. His lawyers used an approach to his defense that was approved by him, no doubt, and you only get one bite at the apple, except in very rare cases.

Bottom line seems to be a mentality that was shown in his posting style. He could have been extremely wealthy just being a great trader and stock picker. Yet, his style of bashing others, from perceived enemies to those who held positions against his positions, is what that article hits upon in my opinion. If he hadn't wanted to present a false impression, that he was right 110% of his picks, 110% of the time and then to rub it in if you disagreed, if he didn't take those steps that gave him that "extra edge" irrepsective of whether or not he needed it, then I suspect he wouldn't be where he is today, for better or worse.

To paraphrase

"I can do what I want. It's all about my nationality. I only extorted scams. Nobody is complaining. I wasn't as bad as the scammers. I helped get rid of scams."

all misses the point.

I know we can't answer this, but think about this and I'd wonder what his friends or former friends would say.

If Tokyo Joe or other perceived enemies were on trial and were being sentenced on the exact same fact pattern, what would Anthony have posted? How would he have posted it? What type of language and style would he have used?

You remember back when he was at his peak of power here, I'm sure. You remember the posts and the style. What would have been his post, and I should say with posts, over and over, laughing, joking, perhaps that the guy should rot in jail, etc., etc., etc.

I've seen the Federal system from many different perspectives. I feel for anyone and their family who is involved as he is. I've often written about what happens to low level drug "dealers" and how unfair and wasteful the "war on drugs" is compared to real issues out there. So, I'm not one to say throw away the key. My own recommendation, if I were asked, would be to sentence him to absolutely no connection with investment trading in any way, including message board posting. In fact, take away his computer and forbid him from associating with anyone in any way who would post on his behalf. Yes, admittedly bizarre, but I am a proponent of sentencing that sends a message and may, in fact, prevent manipulative behavior in the future.

I'd just ask you "what would Anthony say?"
