GWN, Often in such cases, one must force the issue. Once upon a time, I forced the issue and the animal owner paid up, albeit reluctantly.

That said, the compensation was only a small part of the whole. The biggest part of the whole was that in the future perhaps said animal owner would exercise more caution in keeping his inherently dangerous animal corralled and controlled, and it seems to have worked out that way over the ensuing years that we both still lived in the same neighborhood. - Holly

That is so tacky! A letter from a lawyer might have changed things.
