I think the underlying drift is that he may have been taken out for voicing strong doubts about the war. That's my suspicion anyway based on reading some extensive articles filled with quotes from family and friends.

Pat Tillman`s brother with murder?

Their plattoon was split in 2 with pat going with the
first group.
Brother Kevin was with the second group and they mistook the first part of their group for Taliban.
