Suspicions of the CIA working & playing two sides against the other was used often in the past , the prominent example was the Iran Iraq war itself and any Arab Shiite/Sunni knows all the stories of this going all the way back . It was the Blood of the Martyrs that helped us combat Soviets in Afghan, etc. But this situation is much different imo , and i have the feeling that if Iran is behind these latest attacks it will backfire in their faces ...and there are many fingers pointing to elements linked to Tehran right now for the bombing of Samarra . The clerics there can rant all they want to the home crowd and spin the blame on US , but the designs of Tehran are clear and the insurgency which does not want a strong US presence so close on its borders as it marches in triumphant parade into a developing nuclear/energy power . There are other insurgencies in Iraq too from out of Syria, that total POS worthless bag . I am not a great lover of Syria .... Arabs may be content to accept the general blame of the US in invading and occupying an Islamic territory now , but there's also an increasing want of authenticity too , so that the belief in their own righteousnes and superior values can be valid . Right now it is not the US that is killing Sunni vs Shiite , and the volume of ranting of hating the US is also tempered by this spree of intra~sectarian murder. A little more authenticity on all sides might be sought after now and may becoming more of a movement in both the nationalist & Islamist alike . Everyone is feeling like they are being played here , and it must be total hell these people caught in the middle are going thru ...and much that is the divisions within Islam itself is in the spotlight for the world to see.
