RE:"Americans can change their habits, but there has to be leadership at the top, positive role models, not Big Oil cronies running things"

I saw some changes in the 70's. People bought small cars. Nixon set the speed limit at 55. People tried solar, Ocean currents, tidal flow, geothermal. Some hooked up to ethanol and natural gas.
All turned to limited pipe dreams when the price of oil fell.

To add insult to injury the "pseudo-environmentalists" went out and bout SUVs and trucks so they could drive on up and enjoy the mountains.

At the same time they stopped building nuclear power plants.
Wind did do rather well.

How to get off oil? Tax it? Raise taxes? That's polical suicide.

Lower the speed limit to 55? That would be a good one.

Build more nuclear power plants?
