When I lived in Mt. View, my CEO lived in Palo Alto in what I'd consider a very middle-class ranch style house in a very middle class subdivision. He had me over for Christmas, since he knew I didn't know anyone in the area, and we discussed his house, which he thought was appreciatiang rapidly in the mid-90's. When he told me he had just had it appraised for 600k, I was floored. I told him his house would be worth maybe 70-80k, if he was lucky, in Austin.
