Judging from the fact that I couldn't get access to the county assessment website this weekend, I think MANY people are going to contest their assessments, and we were all trying to do our computer research at the same time.

Headlines in the local newspapers about how people are reacting to their assessments have not been too calm or benign.

This appeal will be a first for me. Never really felt unfairly assessed in the past.

From one article I read, part of the problem might be that assessors this year have many more comparable sales on which to jack up taxes than they've had in the past. If there hadn't been many sales, assessments might have stayed more in line with previous years. Their definition of a "comparable" looks to me as sorta over the top and pushing the envelope.

Haven't heard much about property tax appeal consultants for about 8-9 years. Will probably be a good profession again for former appraisers, realtors and mortgage brokers looking for work next cycle..
